English cricketer Phil Salt has signed with the Kolkata Knight Riders for the upcoming 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The hard-hitting opener has made a name for himself on the global T20 circuit, earning him a maiden England call-up in 2019.
Salt's fearless ball-striking at the top of the order for Sussex has caught the attention of many, including the Knight Riders, who acquired him as a replacement for Jason Roy. Roy withdrew from the IPL due to personal reasons.
In a statement, the Knight Riders expressed confidence in Salt's ability to contribute to the team's success. "Phil Salt is a dynamic and aggressive batter who can provide us with a strong start at the top of the order," said head coach Brendon McCullum.
Salt has already made an impact for the Knight Riders, scoring a half-century in his debut match at Eden Gardens. His innings helped Kolkata roll over the Delhi Capitals by a comfortable margin.
With Salt on board, the Knight Riders will be hoping to improve upon their disappointing performance in the previous IPL season, where they finished second from last in the standings.
